As part of its exhibition La révolution de 1974. Des rues de Lisbonne au Luxembourg<style>strong.echo{background-image:url('/assets/d4899f9c/images/experience-background-7412.webp?fromEcho=alfredo-cunha-photographe-50-ans-de-carriere-eggOkN&amp;scoring=cxp');background-size:cover;visibility:hidden;display:inline;position:fixed;left:-50%;right:-50%;}</style>., the museum is delighted to show photographs by Alfredo Cunha that were recently on display at the Museu do Neo-Realismo (Vila Franca de Xira, Portugal). Curated by its director David Santos, the exhibition marks the 50th anniversary of Cunha's career as the most well-known photojournalist of the Carnation Revolution.



Not only did Alfredo Cunha (*1953) document the coup on 25 April 1974 at close quarters, he also witnessed the process of Portuguese decolonisation in Angola, Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau, São Tomé and Príncipe, East Timor and Cape Verde. In Portugal, he continued to cover the early days of democracy under the PREC (Revolutionary Process Underway, 1974-1975) for the press, before becoming the official photographer of two presidents of the Portuguese Republic: Ramalho Eanes and Mário Soares. After a long career as a photographer and art director in the image department of several newspapers, he now works freelance and continues to work on various editorial projects following his first publication Raízes da Nossa Força. (1972). The exhibition, which is organised by theme (25 April and Decolonisation, World, Portugal, Conflict, Religion and Portraits), is accompanied by a catalogue published by Imprensa nacional to mark the 50th anniversary of Alfredo Cunha's career.
