Lilas Blano
Shades of Cherry
After graduating from the École des Beaux Arts in Reims, Lilas Blano (*1965, Damascus, Syria) first started working in the advertising field, before moving on to the animation sector. She has been working at Steven Spielberg's animation production Amblimation and at Warner Bros. studios in London. However, she decided to concentrate on her own artistic career. Starting in Montpellier and later returning to Reims, the artist was always inspired by everyday events and as a result, she created a universe of vibrant colours and graceful shapes, all marked by a strong and distinctive graphic style.

At the beginning of my artistic career, I started working in Montpellier, where I drew inspiration from the daily movement of people passing by, just like an everyday urban theatrical scene. Gradually, the focus shifted to human interactions, especially female dynamics, exploring the intimate relationships between characters. Now, I am trying to portray figures in motion, not just as physical figures, but also as symbols of transformation and inner development. This transition, between the past and the present or between different phases of time, is the central focus of my upcoming exhibition at Galerie Schortgen. I will be incorporating my recurring motifs - feminine figures, floral and geometric designs - while reintegrating urban and interior settings, which will become an active part of the narrative, going beyond their decorative function. My work, somewhere between painting and serigraphy, is characterised by repetitive geometric motifs and architectural accuracy, creating a sense of vibrancy. I aim to draw attention through meticulous compositions in which the structure and shape are the key elements. Lilas Blano - 2025
