Plante Mère

Where? 28, rue Münster, L-2160 Luxembourg Art, Culture & Literature

Justine Blau

At the heart of Luxembourg artist Justine Blau’s project Plante Mère is her mother’s collection of seeds and nuts, brought back from her many travels. Through it, her mother shares with the family both a botanical heritage—the plants themselves and our intimate connection with the Earth—and a cultural heritage, made up of stories, experiences, and her perspective on the world.

Plante Mère is one of three projects that were selected in response to the open call Art That Grows. The three multimedia installations represent different perspectives on the theme of the seed, from personal, interactive, hopeful, and emotional to industrial and scientific. Though each artist’s approach to the topic holds a unique quality they all play on our interaction with nature and mirror our flawed relationship. As such, the artistic projects aim to widen the interpretational scope of “Graines” without taking away from its informative, educational, and deeply aesthetic impact.
