Public screening and film discussion: Brainwashed
Public screening and film discussion: Brainwashed
The documentary “Brainwashed” questions the impact of images on our conception of gender, and in particular the male gaze on women. Through 175 movies, director Nina Menkes examines systemic sexism in cinematic narration. “Brainwashed” deconstructs the Hollywood myth and highlights how visual language can foster sexual discrimination and violence.
The screening will be followed by a discussion (in English) in the presence of the director, Nina Menkes (online), Madelaine Wood, PhD candidate at the University of Luxembourg, holder of a master's degree in intercultural communication and a bachelor's degree in film production, and Isabelle Schmoetten, head of the Centre d'Information et de Documentation Fraen an Gender. Moderator: Isabel Spigarelli
A translation from English into French is available on request.
