Along with his best friend Miyata, Sanu returns to Izu, a Japanese seaside resort where he met five years earlier his now-wife Nagi. Driven by grief and nostalgia for the place, Sano sets out to find a red cap that Nagi had once misplaced. Miyata, meanwhile, is interested in a personal development course called “Super Happy Forever.”
With its ghostly ambience and melancholy seaside landscapes, Super Happy Forever stands out for its delightful sense of derision and discrepancy, while portraying a masculinity still rare in cinema, as well as a deconstructed friendship.
