In 2014 the "Kulturfabrik" in Esch-sur-Alzette launched the project “Kufa’s Urban Art”. The project is both pedagogical and artistic in nature. The idea is/ was to change the urban landscape in a sustainable manner. Several artists from different countries participated.
The "Kulturfabrik" is a cultural center located in the heart of the Greater Region, in the south of Luxembourg, in Esch-sur-Alzette, in the buildings of the former municipal slaughterhouse. On 4500m2, there are two performance halls, a gallery, a cinema, a brasserie, a bistro and several rehearsal rooms.
The "Kulturfabrik" is a committed meeting place open to the public, artists and associations. Its program is varied: concerts, festivals, theater, cinema, educational projects, literature, artist residencies...
As a non-profit association (ASBL) it is supported by the Luxembourg Ministry of Culture and the City of Esch-sur-Alzette. Launched in 2014, "Kufa's Urban Art Esch" has come a long way. After more than 80 works scattered in 10 cities in Luxembourg and the Grande Région, the project was discontinued in 2021. The project offered a rich programme: artistic interventions by national and international artists, conferences, participatory and integrative projects, meetings and sightseeing tours...
