CeCiL's Box by Yannick Muller
Thanks for your attention
Location : .CeCiL's Box, rue du Curé
.
With the CeCiL's Box, the Cercle Cité supports local creation by presenting and promoting the work of emerging and young artists from the Greater Region in one of its shop windows in the Rue du Curé. This mini exhibition space, visible 7 days a week, day and night, offers a street-side location in the heart of the city to a series of original and ephemeral interventions from the plastic and applied arts, with the aim of arousing the curiosity of passers-by and questioning the collective imagination.
The 36th intervention, entrusted to artist Yannick Muller, is entitled Thanks for your attention.
In Thanks for your attention, Yannick Muller explores the futility of everyday life and his difficulty in trying to capture it. As if in an attempt to capture the ephemeral, over a period of four months, each working day of the week, a new drawing replaced the previous one in the window of Cecil's Box.
As in AntiVirus, his first publication, Yannick derives his inspiration from a vast blend of references – popular culture, collective memories, personal considerations – which he distils into a few strokes of felt on white paper. Trained as a graphic artist, here he moves away from technical precision in order to structure his thoughts through a raw and immediate language.
Sometimes poetic, sometimes melancholic, these drawings are essentially a space for free expression. Each work becomes a "thought for the day", capturing the moment with a sincerity stripped bare of all artifice. Without seeking either a reinterpretation or a judgement, Yannick adopts universal symbols, transforming them into fragments of a personal narrative.
Like looking through the spyhole of a half-open door, this series of falsely naïve works swings between the desire to share and the modesty we associate with intimacy, inviting us to observe, to feel and perhaps to recognize ourselves.
