CeCiL’s Box celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2025!

Since 2015, Cercle Cité has been supporting local creation and has showcased the work of thirty-four young and emerging artists from the Greater Region in one of its windows on Rue du Curé, visible 24/7.

To mark this anniversary, the Cercle Cité is giving five of these artists carte blanche for a cycle of artist film screenings throughout the year. These screenings, which explore their current research or serve as a source of inspiration for their practice, will be followed by a dialogue with the artists, joined by specialists in their field or enthusiasts of their art.

During this fourth screening, we will be showing the films The Sand Castle / Le Château de Sable and The Garden of Écos / Le Jardin d'Écos by Co Hoedeman, proposed by Keong-A Song.

.

The poetic visual approach of Co Hoedeman's films makes them resonate profoundly with the artistic world of artist Keong-A-Song. The Garden of Écos / Le Jardin d'Écos and The Sand Castle / Le Château de Sable explore the cyclical relationship between humans, animals and nature, as well as the fragile balances that unite them. These themes lie at the heart of her work, where she explores these connections with pictorial compositions, cut-out paper sculptures, drawings and illustrated books.

In The Garden of Écos / Le Jardin d'Écos, the harmonious coexistence of creatures showcases the wealth of ecosystems, a vision that is in line with her artistic approach. The Sand Castle evokes the ephemeral nature of life and human constructions, a cycle of creation and destruction that also runs through her work.

Technically speaking, Hoedeman uses stop-motion animation with simple but expressive materials, an approach she explores mainly in her works in cut-out paper. Behind their apparent simplicity, his films contain a philosophical depth that inspires her: they remind us that the balance of the world rests on the interdependence of each being with the natural elements. The work of Keong-A-Song thus dialogues with the enchanting world of Co Hoedeman, where each creation tells a story of coexistence and harmony with nature and the living world in all its forms.

The screening will be followed by a discussion with Marco Godinho (artist), in French.
