One of the objectives of the Öewersauer Nature Park is to preserve the old craft traditions of the region.A weavers’ guild already existed in the 16th century in Esch-sur-Sûre. The origin of the cloth factory therefore goes hand in hand with the invention of the first woolen machines. In 1807 Martin Schoetter-Greisch built a fulling machine and 10 years later he installed the first spinning machine. In 1866, the factory was enlarged to accommodate all the necessary operations for cloth production. With the relaunch of the production of wool products, the former cloth factory of Esch-sur-Sûre, was given back its original purpose after its definitive closure in 1975. An exceptionally valuable cultural and craft heritage was thus not only preserved, but also further developed in keeping with the times. In the cloth factory, the carefully restored machines can be viewed, and they are still in action during guided tours (on request). Today, exclusive woolen fabrics are once again produced on the museum’s machines and offered in our shop.
