Statue of Grand Duchess Charlotte

Where? Place Clairefontaine, L-1341 Luxembourg

This statue was inaugurated 29 April 1990. It is the expression of the great attachment that the people of Luxembourg had for Grand Duchess Charlotte who reigned from 1919 to 1964. She passed away in 1985.

One of the few statues in Luxembourg city. It stands in the center of the old town of Luxembourg.

The idea to have a statue of Grand Duchess Charlotte erected arouse immediately after her burial in the middle of the Luxembourg population. During World War II she had become the symbol of Luxembourg’s independence through her broadcasted speeches in Luxembourgish on the BBC.
