100 years ago, there were about 1.1 million fruit trees in Luxembourg, i.e. about four fruit trees per inhabitant.
50 years later, the number of orchards has already halved. Currently there are less than 200,000 fruit trees in the country, i.e. one tree for less than 2 inhabitants. The overall state of care of the fruit trees is poor and the ecological impact of the decline of the orchards is clearly noticeable.
Protecting orchards with their fruits is protecting biodiversity.
