Emil and I are spending the afternoon in Septfontaines with Grandma Tilly.

“What a wonderful view,” Tilly enthuses. She is sitting on a bench and looking at the pale-coloured church and large castle. Emil and I are at the playground and playing with a ball. All of a sudden, there are two boys standing next to us. They’re looking at a piece of paper as they turn it in all directions.

“Do you need any help?” Emil asks them.

“Umm…” the boys look at each other. Then the bigger one nods: “Yes, some help would be great. We’re Thomas and Willi and we absolutely need to solve the riddles, otherwise…”

“Shhh!” the other boy interrupts and gives him a stern look.

“Otherwise?” Emil continues. The two boys look at one another.

Then with his eyes on the ground, Willi says: “We want to become knights. But we can only do this if we pass some tests.”

Emil and I stand there wide-eyed. Did we hear correctly? Curious to learn more, we say: “Come on, we’ll help you, we enjoy riddles.”

Thomas folds away the paper: “Let’s go to the church then!” We run up the hill quickly.

“We’ve got to find out what animal is on the church tower.” Emil and I squint our eyes to try and see better.

“I’ve got it!” my brother shouts. He tells us the answer and Thomas writes it down on the piece of paper.

“Okay, now we’ve got to go to the well,” Thomas explains.

“Hm, but where is the well?” I ask as I look around. But already Willi and Thomas are running off and disappear between the old houses. Emil and I help our new friends to solve 6 exciting riddles, located at various places throughout Septfontaines.

Later in the afternoon, Thomas and Willi shout with joy: “We’ve done it! We’ve passed another test!”

Overjoyed, both boys jump in the air. Emil and I rejoice too with a big “Yay!”. Then full of curiosity, Emil suddenly asks: “What else do you have to do to become a knight?”

“We’re sorry,” Willi says “but that’s our knight’s secret. Thank you for your help!” Willi and Thomas walk away together. Briefly they stop, turn around and wave to us: “Goodbye!” And then they both disappear.
